Insurance For Funeral Directors

Jul 22, 2020, 1:16 PM

One-of-a-kind coverage for a one-of-a-kind business.

Unless you’re in the business, you probably don’t think about funeral homes until you need one. It’s a significant industry, though, with more than 19,000 funeral homes in the U.S. employing more than 110,000 people. Like many other types of business, funeral homes need reliable insurance protection. It’s available with Hastings Mutual’s Funeral Directors coverage, an add-on to our Businessowners coverage.

The service a funeral home provides is unique, and the insurance coverage it needs is one-of-a-kind, too. It includes auto legal liability, protection if there’s damage to a vehicle being driven for work purposes. If equipment and materials are transported off-site, they’re covered by the business personal property coverage. All the important documents a funeral home works with are covered, too, like money, securities and “valuable papers” (i.e. private client information).

Like many of us, funeral home directors have had to make changes in the way they do business during the COVID-19 outbreak. They’re still working, and though people can’t gather together in person to remember someone who has passed away, they can still connect to one another through the internet. There are virtual memorial services and opportunities to write down memories online along with video tributes.

Other major changes are happening too, like adjusting to the interests of younger people (who will be managing funerals for their parents). Some want a more environmentally friendly process, while others are not religious. Those adjustments are ones that funeral directors will have to make in coming years. Trying something new to meet the customer’s needs is a business risk. Hastings Funeral Directors coverage provides protection for risks, so the business can focus on what it does best.
