New Houses And The Insurance They Need

Aug 5, 2021, 1:53 PM

Building didn’t stop during COVID-19. Here’s a look at what happened.

Like so many other things, the home construction business was turned upside down during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was even kind of uncertain for a while earlier this year. Despite all that, the U.S. Census Bureau reports that nearly a million single-family homes were built throughout the country in 2020. A few interesting notes:

Homes built in 2020 infographic - 95% had air conditioning, 37% had fire places, 10% had 1-2 bedrooms, 44% had 4 or more bedrooms, meidan size was 2,261 square feet

This is only a small selection of the data the Census Bureau reported — and of course these numbers were affected by what builders were allowed to do, and how much money their customers had to spend, during the quarantine period.

What does all of that mean for you? Well, if you have a home, you can compare yours to what new homes are like now. But more importantly, it’s an indication of what’s included in Hastings Mutual home coverage.

Our Homeowners policy is where you start. It’s a solid foundation of coverage for your property. Several kinds of discounts and credits are available for Homeowners policies, to help give you the right protection at the right price.

Our policy can be supplemented with the Homeowners Coverage Plus endorsement, when you want additional insurance protection for your home and your property. If you’re one of the hundreds of thousands with a brand-new (or mostly brand-new) home, a Homeowners policy with the Coverage Plus endorsement and our New Home discount may be ideal for all the new things you have.

We’re also proud to offer two specific coverages, for service line and equipment breakdown. Your local independent insurance agent can help you put together the right insurance for your house.

Did you build a new house during the pandemic? What does your house look like? Let me know in the comments.
