Nonprofit of the Month: Benton Community Foundation Toy Shop
Christmas is past, but the need is still here.
The Hastings Mutual Insurance Company Charitable Foundation recognizes the contributions of nonprofit organizations in the communities we serve. Each month, we’ll honor one of those organizations as our Nonprofit of the Month.
It’s a tradition every year — because there’s a need every year. Not long ago, the Benton Community Foundation in Fowler, Indiana, opened its doors to its annual Toy Shop for low-income families in the neighborhood. Families are able to buy toys and clothing, and even get the gifts wrapped so there’s something under the tree on Christmas day. Local businesses and individuals contribute books, dolls, games, jackets, shoes, and more to choose from.
The Benton Community Foundation offers more to Fowler and nearby communities, of course. They’re also a source of grants and scholarships (for both high school seniors and adults looking to go back to school), as well as another gift for young girls: The Princess Ball, for daughters and fathers (or grandpas, uncles, big brothers…) to enjoy an evening together.
