Nonprofit of the Month — KeyStone Place

The Hastings Mutual Insurance Company Charitable Foundation recognizes the contributions of nonprofit organizations in the communities we serve. Each month, we’ll honor one of those organizations as our Nonprofit of the Month.

On a single night in 2018, more than 550,000 people — single people, families including children, and veterans — were homeless in the United States. And not all of them are in the nation’s cities. KeyStone Place, is located in the rural town of Centreville, MI. The shelter has 25 temporary rooms and offers not only shelter and food but also rental and job search assistance.

Kelli Tackett, KeyStone Place’s director, says in 2016, more than 500 people were turned away from the shelter because of a lack of funding. KeyStone Place clients are typically referred by Department of Health and Human Services, local police departments, members of the Human Services Commission, and the local Salvation Army.
