Nonprofit of the Month: Veterans Matter

Everyone needs a place to live, and one organization is doing what it can to help those who have served.

The Hastings Mutual Insurance Company Charitable Foundation recognizes the contributions of nonprofit organizations in the communities we serve. Each month, we’ll honor one of those organizations as our Nonprofit of the Month.

Veterans Matter was established for one reason: to put American military veterans in permanent housing. Founded in 2012, Veterans Matter gives veterans the financial backing they need to get into federally funded residences. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) offers Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing for eligible homeless veterans and their families.

HUD provides vouchers to support veterans, but they also need to pay a deposit for their new home. Donations to Veterans Matter are used to pay those deposits. The organization reports a 91% success rate in keeping veterans in long-term housing.

Based in Ohio, Veterans Matter is available in Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana. Funding support is still needed in the other states where Hastings Mutual offers coverage (Illinois, Iowa, and Wisconsin).
